Seeking an experienced Canteen & Café Manager to join our Wycliffe Team.....

The Canteen & Café Manager will lead a new team in the school’s new purpose-built canteen and café facilities due to open in Term 3 2025. The Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the school’s canteen and café - ensuring that students, staff and community members enjoy delicious food and drinks in a warm, welcoming hub in the geographic heart of the Wycliffe site. This position is responsible to the Business Manager, with the successful candidate required to manage multiple competing priorities in a calm, servant-hearted and generous fashion.

Key responsibilities
• Management of the school’s (interconnected but distinct) canteen and café facilities, ensuring that each operates in a sustainable fashion whilst contributing positively to community life
• Develop, implement, and maintain procedures to ensure safe, efficient and effective food service delivery
• Hands-on preparation and service of delicious food and drinks to students and staff for breakfast, recess and lunch
• Lead and train staff and volunteers to be cohesive and energetic, committed to delivering friendly and efficient service
• Oversee the rostering of staff and volunteers to ensure service delivery
• Assist in the recruitment and training of new staff
• Overseeing the ordering and maintenance of Café equipment, stock and supplies, including the management of supplier contracts
• Assist in the organisation and delivery of functions and events
• Maintenance of exceptional cleaning, sanitation and food hygiene practices (to commercial standards)
• Oversee daily financial reconciliations
• In consultation with the Business Manager, implement strategies to ensure that café and canteen costs are managed effectively
Selection criteria
Essential skills/qualifications
• A committed and active relationship with Jesus Christ, evidenced by regular attendance and service within a local church community
• Hospitality experience, including a strong understanding of workplace and food safety and canteen and café operations
• Flexibility, patience, empathy and a willingness to engage in a variety of tasks and responsibilities
• Highly developed customer service skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team and work independently as required
• Financial acumen, with a proven ability to implement strategies that enhance operations, profitability and customer experience
• The ability to creatively design canteen and café menus
• A strong desire to work with children and young people
• Ability to handle community information with discretion and confidentiality
• A current Working With Children Check
• A current NSW Food Authority Food Safety Supervisors Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
• Successful completion of the NSW Food Authority Food Handler Basics course
Desirable skills/qualifications
• Previous leadership experience within a hospitality environment
• Experience as a Chef/Cook
• Experience in a school-setting
Physical/work environment requirements
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks that require physical exertion (e.g. lifting and carrying supplies)
• Proficiency in handling kitchen equipment and utensils safely and efficiently
• Comfortable working in an environment with varying temperatures
• Ability to work in a busy environment with moderate noise levels.
