The Canteen Assistant / Barista will form a key member of the Canteen and Café team, serving in the school’s new purpose-built facilities due to open in Term 3 2025. Working alongside the Canteen & Café Manager the Canteen Assistant / Barista will contribute to the smooth operation of the canteen and café each day, preparing and serving delicious food and drinks in a warm, welcoming hub in the geographic heart of the Wycliffe site.

The Canteen Assistant / Barista will:

• Participate fully in the spiritual life of the school, including participation in staff devotions and meetings (as able)

• Exude a Christlike personality; flexibly and empathetically approaching their role

• Possess strong communication skills, with the capacity to meaningfully relate to students, parents, colleagues and others within the Wycliffe community

Key responsibilities

• Hands-on preparation and service of delicious food and drinks to students, staff and Wycliffe community members each day, assuming primary responsibility for café service

• Compliance with food service policies and procedures

• Cohesively and energetically working alongside the Canteen & Café Manager and volunteers to deliver friendly and efficient service

• Assist in preparing for and the delivery of school functions and events

• Unpacking of deliveries and organisation of stock

• Maintenance of exceptional cleaning, sanitation and food hygiene practices

• Other tasks as required to ensure the smooth functioning of the canteen and cafe


Selection criteria

Essential skills/qualifications

• A committed and active relationship with Jesus Christ, evidenced by regular attendance and service within a local church community

• Experience as a barista in a hospitality environment

• Experience in handling and preparing food safely and hygienically

• Flexibility, patience, empathy and a willingness to engage in a variety of tasks and responsibilities

• A friendly and helpful demeanor

• Capacity to prioritise tasks so as to meet deadlines, with the ability to demonstrate flexibility and initiative in changing circumstances

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to meaningfully contribute to the design of canteen and café menus

• Ability to handle community information with discretion and confidentiality

• A strong desire to work with children and young people

• A current Working With Children Check

• Successful completion of the NSW Food Authority Food Handler Basics course (or willingness to complete)

Desirable skills/qualifications

• Experience in a school-setting

Physical/work environment requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks that require physical exertion (e.g. lifting and carrying supplies)

• Proficiency in handling kitchen equipment and utensils safely and efficiently

• Comfortable working in an environment with varying temperatures

• Ability to work in a busy environment with moderate noise levels
