Southern Hills Christian College is a Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 college, set in Bedfordale, Western Australia, and boasting staff with extensive educational experience.

Located in the beautiful bush setting of Bungendore Park, our college provides a safe and adventurous learning environment for students to enjoy a rigorous and holistic education, taught through the lens of a Christian world view.

Strong emphasis is placed on the explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy in Primary and Secondary, balanced with inquiry-based learning, while encouraging our students to be critical thinkers and independent learners.

A range of digital technologies is used by teachers to assist in the teaching of curriculum and by students to assist in their learning. Our goal is to challenge young people beyond the complexity of a national curriculum.

Why This Role?

The Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in supporting science teaching staff by preparing, organising, and maintaining laboratory resources and equipment. The role involves setting up practical experiments, ensuring safe laboratory practices, and managing resources to facilitate engaging and effective science learning experiences for students.

The Role

This permanent part time role commencing from July (negotiable) 2025 (0.4 FTE).

As a Laboratory Technician, you will:

  • Prepare and set up laboratory equipment, chemicals, and materials for practical science lessons as per teacher instructions.
  • Assist in demonstrating safe laboratory practices and experiment setups when required.
  • Maintain, clean, and organise laboratory equipment and resources, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Monitor stock levels of consumables, chemicals, and equipment, and liaise with the department to order supplies as necessary.
  • Collaborate with science teachers to design and implement practical experiments aligned with curriculum objectives.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to students and staff during laboratory sessions, including helping troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Ensure all laboratory practices comply with school policies, Australian occupational health and safety (OHS) standards, and relevant regulations, including the safe handling and storage of chemicals.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualification relevant to the role (desirable)
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably within a secondary school setting.
  • Familiarity with science curricula and practical laboratory activities for secondary education is advantageous.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and be an active member of a Christian Church.
  • Accept and align with the Association’s Statement of Faith, Foundational Statements of belief, and educational objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively with teaching staff, students, and other school personnel, providing clear and supportive guidance on laboratory activities.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
