The iconic Nunyara Conference Centre, located in Belair, is a ministry of the Uniting Church in South Australia and aims to provide exceptional Christian hospitality to school camps, church groups, community organisations and day conference guests. 

An opportunity exists for a permanent, part time Head Cook (minimum 25 hours per week) to coordinate kitchen operations to provide healthy, appetising, and well-presented meals to guests.  Hours of work are generally breakfast to mid-afternoon, Monday to Thursday.

The Head Cook is an integral part of the Nunyara leadership team. The role has an emphasis on kitchen operations and food service to assist Uniting Venues SA (UVSA) to provide exceptional Christian hospitality.

Reporting to the Centre Manager, the Head Cook’s key tasks are:  

  • preparation of menus and ordering of stock whilst considering individual dietary requirements

  • prepare and serve appetising and nutritious meals in accordance with food handing and food safety standards

  • adhere to UVSA policy including Food Safety and HACCP plans and procedures

  • train kitchen staff and supervise their day-to-day conduct

  • maintain effective communication with other key staff including bookings, programs, maintenance, and housekeeping

The successful applicant will be required to have significant experience in a similar position with a high level of proficiency in commercial cookery.  In addition, the successful applicant will have:

  • demonstrated bulk cooking experience in the hospitality or related industry

  • the ability to work unsupervised autonomously and with self-motivation

  • proven ability and a willingness to be flexible and solution focused

Experience within the camp and group accommodation industry will be highly regarded, as is the completion of a commercial cookery qualification or relevant work experience.  Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills are a must in this role, as is a willingness to support the ethos of the Uniting Church.
